On Thursday Nights the Lights Dim

(homework: poem on another culture)

Shoulder to shoulder
The bodies move.
Shirts thrown,
Skirts rolled.
The flash of skin
In darkness

Illuminated momentarily.

Everyone dips and curls
Sensually.

“Shh,” she whispers
As her hand finds yours:
Pulls you in.
Pull you out.

Breathless.

And she stands before you,
Hips swinging.

Affirmation of Immortality.

Your eyes shut.
Your heart to the music beat.

And the crowd pushes closer.
Pushes closer.
